Review & Description

Flower viewing is a long-standing Japanese tradition, and a ritual activity for many people. The plum blossoms from which this design is adapted are part of a woodblock print or “brocade picture” by Suzuki Harunobu (Japanese, 1725–1770), the master of the medium. In the print, the snowy five-petaled blossoms of the plum, or ume, are particularly radiant against a clear nighttime sky, emanating an ethereal glow. Flexible leather bound journal has a decorative gold-stamped emblem on the front. Inside are 256 lined pages with a ribbon marker waiting for mementos and thoughts. Journal is 4 3/4 x 6 5/8-inches.
